This is Week 3 of the scrapbook challenge between me and my sis-in-law, Susanne. Our sketch we were to try and duplicate is above. Since my Week 1 challenge had a spring theme with the flowers, and my Week 2 had a summer theme with the peaches, I thought I would try for a fall/autumn type of layout for this week.

Sorry for the crooked photo. At least I didn’t cut off anyone’s head, which is what I usually do when taking pictures. But to get back to my fall/autumn theme. I didn’t want to do all of the beautiful fall colors that are so breath-taking with the leaves falling, even though I love the look and feel. I thought instead of the time of year when the leaves have all been raked up and the air is crisp but the first snow has not yet fallen. That was my inspiration for this layout.

I used the Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!, along with a retired stamp set called Rooted in Nature. Of course, there is a current set Beauty of Friendship on Page 11 of the Annual Catalog that works wonderfully with this paper.

I started with two pieces of 12×12 Early Espresso cardstock as my base. On the layout on the right, I added a strip of paper cut at 9×12 and the 3×12 leftover piece went on the left layout. Next came the woodgrain paper from the Beauty of the Earth DSP cut at 6-1/4×10-1/2 layered on the right side layout, with the leftover piece adhered to the layout on the left. I then added a strip of paper measured at 4×10-1/2 to finish out the left layout, leaving about an inch in between the two papers. I pulled out my retired Stampin’ Up! Tasteful Trim Sizzix die and cut out the zigzag strips from Bumblebee cardstock and placed on the pages.

I stamped my trees in Old Olive, Mossy Meadow and Bumblebee ink, layering Cinnamon Cider over the Bumblebee to darken the color a bit. They went through the Big Shot with the coordinating dies and I added them to my layout on the left.

This part of layout on the right was fun. I used an old journaling template to make lines on my paper and then punched the notebook holes on the top with another retired Stampin’ Up! punch. The “Remember” and “when. . .” were alphabet stickers from my stash. I pulled out the Cricut and cut the two speech bubbles and offset layer and adhered them as shown. The little pine trees were also part of the Rooted in Nature stamp set and dies, inked in Mossy Meadow and Old Olive. The other three trees further down the page were a repeat of the three on the opposite page. I added some bling (couldn’t resist) and I’m not sure you can see it that well. I used the Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels for that bit of shine.

As usual, I’m glad there is only one challenge left, because my mind is totally befuddled! Hope you enjoy and make sure to check out Susanne’s layout for this challenge. Keep stampin’ and scrappin’!
